“Health reform cannot wait another year” - Judi Hillman, Executive Director, Utah Health Policy Project.
Ron Wilkinson, Judi Hillman, Tony Caputo and others were joined by several Salt Lake small business owners on Wed, July 8th at Caputos Market to speak on Healthcare Reform.
According to the Utah Small Business Healthcare Survey, Utah small business owners “overwhelmingly indicate that affordability is the barrier to providing health insurance.” The number one concern is controlling costs, followed by having guaranteed coverage that covers everybody.
Natalie Gouchnor, from the Salt Lake Chamber of Commerce said at wednesday’s meeting “This issue affects all businesses, large and small. We have the lowest healthcare costs in the country and it is our priority and our obligation to provide affordable healthcare. I urge you to get behind this”.
“If small business fails in this country we will all suffer” said Bill Rappleye, Draper Chamber of Commerce. “The most common issue facing all small businesses is healthcare. If an employee cannot afford to take care of something small, it turns into something large. This issue is critical to business in our state”.
Utah Small Business Healthcare Survey:
- 80% of all small businesses support establishing a health insurance pool
- 79% want to eliminate preexisting condition rules and 74% see these rules as a barrier to starting a business.
- 64% say healthcare reform is important in getting the economy back on track
